Contact Group Project

Is there other life in the Universe?
How do you know?

Argument:

Your team is to present the main arguments and evidence for a main character in the film.
Present the main argument as a web page. The entire team should agree that the statement of the argument represents the particular characters main idea.

Evidence:

Present the evidence as links to that page.
Each team member should have primary responsibility for a link and evidence page. The evidence on each page should be different.  The evidence may include sources not in the film, but should cover the same ideas as presented in the film.

Comparison:

Based on the argument and evidence which character in the play Galileo would be most sympathetic to the character your team has been assigned?  Make a web page that shows your comparison, including similarities, differences and your conclusion about the two characters.

Grading Criterion

Accuracy of Argument Statement

Strong, brief statement of the main idea represented by the character in answering the question, "Is there other life in the universe?" (20 points)

Clarity of Evidence

Three major points of evidence from that character's perspective to support the argument.  Each should be clearly stated.  (30 points)

Comparison

Both similarities and differences in the perspective of the character and one of the characters from the play, "Galileo." The main question in "Galileo" is different, but the types of evidence that are used and the values for those evidences are the same.  Draw a conclusion based on the comparisons. (20 points)

Team Work

The set of five pages should show organization and coherence.  There should be clear agreement of purpose across links and no overlap of content in the pages.  That means each individual must know what the others are presenting.  Teams of 5 should have each person primarily responsible for one page.  Teams of 4 should have one member do both the Argument Page and the Comparison Page, although the entire team must work together on the content of both. (20 points)

Presentation

The pages should be well written with good grammar and spelling.  There should be a maximum of one graphic per page.  All parts of the page should be related to it's main content.  Each page should have it's author's name on it. Save the pages to the class R: drive in the Work Directory. (10 points)
